Volunteers & Work Experience
Pear Tree Poultry are happy to offer work experience to anyone interested in looking after animals and animal welfare. It may be that your academic course requires you to get specific 'hands-on' experience in a 'real' environment. This is particularly relevant to students on Animal Husbandry courses or Veterinary Practice. Or it may be that you are just interested in working with animals, and have time to spare and are enthusiastic.
We have had a few students on a Veterinary degree course, who have been able to complete their log-book, during out-of-term time. Leila, is just such an example. She recently left us to study at a University in Poland to obtain a degree in veterinary practice. One of our long-term volunteers, Elaine has now become a fully-fledged member of staff at Pear Tree Poultry. We thank her for her support in the past, and we are delighted she has chosen Pear Tree Poultry for her employment. Elaine has completed Level 3 Animal Care at Myerscough College and she has also qualified as an SQP, completing her AMTRA exams which means our site is a Licensed Premises to sell certain veterinary medicinal products under Defra. Tayler, having initially volunteered for twelve months, has now completed her apprenticeship linked to Myerscough College achieving Level 3 Animal Care. Our most recent apprentice, Jacob is very hard working, enthusiastic and fits in well with staff and customers. He is in his first year as an apprentice with us and studying Level 2 studies in Animal Care at Myerscough College. We really appreciate their commitment and we hope we can go some way to helping them all on thier career path. Hopefully, one or two of them will stay around and find a job with us when they have finished their studies, as Elaine and Tayler have now proven.
So you can see that voluntary work at Pear Tree Poultry, in particular, can provide a perfect stepping stone to a career working with animals.
